[Personnel and Labor Relations] Proposal to exchange Monday, April 29, for another weekly holiday, etc.

On April 4, the Ministry of Labor, Injuries, and Social Affairs proposed to the Prime Minister a proposal to adjust the number of days off in April, and at the same time sent its opinion to 15 authorities. Specifically, the proposal called for Monday, April 29, the middle day of the weekend and a national holiday, to be a holiday, with work on other weekends, etc. to be substituted, so that the five consecutive days from Saturday, April 27 to Wednesday, May 1 would be holidays.

When a company sets overtime or make-up days off for workers during this vacation period, the following points should be noted;

◆For overtime work on holidays (April 30 and May 1) and weekends (April 27 and 28)
Based on the current labor legislation, overtime wages shall be calculated as follows
・Overtime on holidays (April 30 and May 1): 300% of the actual hourly rate for the regular work day.
・Overtime on weekends (April 27 and 28): equivalent to 200% of the actual hourly rate for the regular workday.

◆If the company wishes to make April 29th a holiday
the company may consider the option of applying the exchange of days off as described above. In this case, the regular work day (April 29) and other weekends will be exchanged, so there will be no change in salary payment.

In addition, on the morning of April 11, the Ministry of Labor proposed that the replacement workday be Saturday, May 4. While the above schedule applies to civil servants, the Ministry of Labor encourages other organizations and companies to apply it to their workers as well.
