[Personnel and Labor Relations] Draft Amendment to the Health Insurance Law

On February 20, 2024, the Vietnamese Ministry of Health published a draft amendment to amend and supplement several provisions of the Law on Health Insurance. If the draft is implemented, it will clarify some details of health insurance provisions that were previously unclear in the law.
The three main changes are as follows

1. Adjustment of health insurance coverage to make it consistent with related laws and regulations.
2. Adjust the scope of health insurance benefits according to the level of premium payment
3. Allocate health insurance funds to regional health bureaus, etc. for effective utilization.

The Ministry of Health proposed not to increase health insurance premiums and to maintain the current premiums, but requested that the future government stipulate details as necessary.

The revised Health Insurance Law was submitted to the Diet in May of this year and is expected to take effect on January 1, 2025.
We will provide an update as soon as the official Health Insurance Law is promulgated by the government.
